Meet our Veterinarians

Richard Sullivan, D.V.M.

Richard Sullivan, D.V.M.
Veterinarian, Hospital Director
Richard came from a rural area in Southern Wisconsin where he lived and worked on a dairy farm until he went to Purdue University where he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. After spending two years in the Peace Corps in Brazil as an extension veterinarian, he moved to Torrance with his wife Connie and became an associate veterinarian at Bay CIties Pet Hospital. Four years later, he had the opportunity to become a partner with Dr. Gardner. He is now a partner with Dr. Norma Rios.

Richard enjoys the challenges of the medical cases and the complexities of his surgical cases, which include both soft tissue and orthopedic procedures. However, the most rewarding part of his work at Bay CIties Pet Hospital has been getting to know the many people whose pets he has helped. He also enjoys his work with veterinary medical organizations, serving as president of both the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association and the California Veterinary Medical Association. He's also the alternate delegate to the national association from California.

Norma Rios, D.V.M.

Norma Rios, D.V.M.
Veterinarian, Hospital Director
Bubbly and outgoing with a great personality is the best way to describe Norma. She is always going into the waiting room to pickup that new puppy or kitten to give them a hug. Norma was raised in Gardena where she still lives, near family, friends along with 5 dogs and 4 cats. Norma graduated from the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation she became an associate veterinarian at Bay Cities Pet Hospital and is now a partner and director.

Norma is a very dedicated veterinarian. She has great insight in all aspects of medicine, but has a special talent of knowing where to focus our resources to get the quickest and best results. Her true compassion for the patient and the client is always very evident. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the South Bay Emergency Pet Clinic where she helps direct and oversees the management of the clinic.

Next to veterinary medicine, her favorite past time is the following: the DODGERS. She lives Dodger Blue from spring training to the last game of the year. Then she finds promotional events during the off season to keep her busy.
